Black Ass'n
At the firm I work for, whenever we receive filed briefs from opposing counsel, its the paralegal's job to do such miscellaneous tasks as finding and printing cases that are referenced within the body of the brief.
This particular case I found had a funny name and so I decided to save it for my own personal enjoyment.
I guess Ass'n can also mean Association, which leaves me wondering why they didn't just use Assoc. in order to avoid confusion. Then again I'm probably the only person who would find this funny for what seems to me an obvious reason.
Black Ass'n kind of makes me think of Black Assin' for some strange reason, and I'm tempted to start using it as a slang term.
Example:
One day a white family of four is denied entry into a popular neighborhood restaurant. The reason being the mom's continued refusal to tip the waiters, based on an unfounded assumption that she was treated condescendingly when she kept asking for extra cocktail sauce for her popcorn shrimp.
The father, unbeknownst to his wife's maltreatment of the staff asks, "Why can't we come here anymore??"
The teenage son, well-versed in trendy urban slang, answers,
"Mom kept black ass'n' the waiters."
Then the father, unimpressed, delivers to his son's unsuspecting mouth a backhand of Serena Williams force and shouts, "Get back in the car!"
